Thank you for your work on this Tom... I have Macular Degeneration in both eyes and have been seeing Dr. Chui for 2 years... She is a gem (as is Dr. Forooghian)... without Dr. Chui & getting my eye needle injections,,, I would face blindness... I am 73 years old, a widow & live on my own... but if the future was without eye needle injections, I would face certain blindness and would have have to give up the freedom of my independence of being able to still live on my own... I have no family near, so that would probably put me into long term care... which I'm not ready for... So Thank you so VERY much Tom for working on this, for all of us with Macular Degeneration... mostly older people... in the East Kootenay's... you are my hero!

A couple months ago, myself and my BC United colleagues got word that the Retinal Specialists were under attack and that 32% of their budget would be cut by the NDP government. After much advocacy and pushing government to do the right thing we have great news. Our office has received word that the Provincial Retinal Diseases Treatment Program will be continuing as it is currently functioning. This will remove the anxiety I have heard from those 25,000 people across the province and 600 in the Kootenays that rely on this service to save their eyesight.
Thank you Tom! Several hundred people in this area rely on Dr. Chui (from Vancouver) who comes regularly, to take care of their eyes. This would have been a dreadful loss to our area not to forget the folks involved. The travelling & expense would have been formidable! — many of the people are older & driving elsewhere is not an option!
Thanks for jumping on this Tom. I have a friend who relies on this treatment and it would have been devastating for her and the many others in our area who need this.
