The Issue
What Residents Are Facing
Residents want to feel safe in their neighbourhoods, downtown, at local businesses, in parks, and on trails. Local businesses want to protect staff, customers, storefronts, and property. Families and seniors want public spaces that are clean, welcoming, and accessible.
At the same time, Cranbrook is dealing with visible homelessness, addiction, mental health challenges, property crime, and street disorder. The 2025 homelessness count found 172 people experiencing homelessness in Cranbrook, up 48 percent from 2023 and more than double the 2020 count. Sadly, our seniors are becoming more and more vulnerable. We will fix this.
Cranbrook can meet the challenge as a regional leader but it will take pragmatic solutions and hard decisions.
Tom’s Approach

Tom believes Cranbrook needs a practical approach that supports vulnerable people while also maintaining clear standards for public spaces and neighbourhoods.
That means better coordination, clearer communication, stronger partnerships, and a City Hall that is honest with residents about what it can do, what it needs from senior government, and where local action can make a difference.

- Strengthen RCMP, bylaw, Fire and Emergency Services, outreach, and service-provider coordination.
- Support business-focused property-crime prevention.
- Improve reporting on community safety trends and actions.
- Ensure bylaws are clear, fair, and enforceable.
- Advocate for provincial resources tied to homelessness, mental health, addiction, and housing.
- Protect parks, sidewalks, trails, downtown areas, and public facilities for everyone.
